DEATH PENALTY LEGISLATION
Our Catholic Social Teaching and the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops uphold the principle that the death penalty is not consistent with an ethic of life and dignity for the human person. The SC state legislature has just approved “ Jessica’s Law” s. 1138 which calls for the death penalty for repeat child molesters.
The bill must now be signed by Gov. Mark Sanford. Those who want to take action by writing to the governor, pleading with him to not support this bill, because

bullet

The Death Penalty amendment in this bill is unconstitutional

bullet

The Death Penalty amendment would be an incentive for offenders to kill the victim leaving no witnesses

bullet

(other ethical reasons)

Governor Mark Sanford, Office of the Governor P.O. Box 12267, Columbia SC 29211.
